One Pot Christmas Dinner - A simple and quick recipe making use of the Christmas foods. 8 months+
Ingredients Needed:
1 cup of cubed Roast Beef, Mutton (Lamb) or Turkey - uncooked
(using cooked is fine as well)
1/2 cup peeled and cubed winter squash
1/2 cup peeled and cubed white potato
1/2 cup peeled and cubed sweet potato
1/2 cup peas or green beans
1 small handful of fresh or frozen cranberries
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a medium sized sauce pan
Add 2 cups of water
Bring to a gentle boil and then turn heat to low
Simmer on low for 20 minutes or until turkey is no longer pink and veggies may be easily pierced with a fork.
Transfer cooked One Pot Christmas Dinner to a large mixing bowl and mash or chop as needed. Process in a Blender or Food Processor if needed for babies who do not like lumps and textures. This will freeze nicely if pureed.
On Christmas Day, you may also take a piece of cooked roast beef, mutton or turkey and combine it with the veggies being served to create Baby's Christmas Dinner.

Can Babies have Cranberry Sauce or Cranberries?
Cranberries tend to be acidic and as such, are not recommended as a "starter' food for babies. If baby does have a reaction to cranberries, the reaction may occur in the form of a red rash. Read more >> Cranberries for Baby Food
Holiday Desserts for Baby?
During the Holidays yummy desserts are a hallmark of the feast. Many deserts will contain whole eggs and even milk. Many pediatricians will say that for the non-allergic baby of 8 months or older, baked goods with whole eggs and dairy products are fine. (Please remember that milk is NOT appropriate as a replacement for breast milk or formula until a baby has reached the age of 12 months or until your baby's pediatrician indicates this is appropriate.)
Wheat is included in many desserts in the form of flour. If your baby has wheat allergies or a gluten intolerance, it would be best to skip a dessert and resist offering baby a "treat". Learn more about Wheat and visit our Wheat & Egg Substitutions page for ideas on cooking without these ingredients.
If you would like your baby to have a Holiday treat and wish to serve him a wee bit of dessert, consider the above and as always, consult with your pediatrician.
Is Gravy Ok to Offer my Baby?
Our inclination is to not offer babies gravy. Homemade Gravy is made of starches and the fatty drippings from the roasting pan. Jarred or canned gravy contains a variety of un-pronounceable ingredients that may not be good for your baby.
Make a Sweet Potato or Squash Gravy.
Why not make a "baby gravy"?
Applesauce may be a great "gravy" when spread over or mixed into meat dishes and even veggie dishes. Puree some sweet potatoes until runny and add a dash of nutmeg then drizzle over the meat or potatoes. You could also make a butternut/acorn squash "gravy" or even a carrot "gravy".
As always, you should consult with your pediatrician about offering your baby foods that may not appropriate for baby's stage.
In general, we do not recommend offering baby "new" foods during the Christmas Holiday. Not offering new foods will help avoid the chance of an allergic reaction and allow you and baby to better enjoy the Holiday.
When purchasing any type of milled whole grain, it's always best to buy smaller quantities to ensure that your whole grains are used prior to them going rancid. The same "rules" apply for to rice powder or oat powder, barley powder etc. that you have ground (milled) for your homemade baby cereal. You should store it in an air tight container, in a cool dry place but preferably in the refrigerator if your home is warm.
Here are a few tips to help you through the Holidays.
Keep the Holiday activity to a minimum when possible.
Resist the relatives and friends who are eager to hold your baby. Let those well-meaning individuals know that your baby may become upset if she is "passed around" to too many people.
Babies thrive on routine and prefer to be with those they feel most secure with. Your baby may be upset with too much stimulation and travel.
Allow yourself the time to retire to a quite room with your baby if you think she needs some relaxation and a break from all the celebrations.
Toys Toys Toys.
Baby really does not need many (shiny or expensive) toys at Christmas time.
This is most true when your baby is between the age of 1 and 10 months old. Ask any parent what their baby or toddler's best loved toy was at Christmas time and you'll be surprised to hear "The boxes, the paper and the bows" were the baby's most played with items
