Frugal Ways to Stay Connected to your Partner

It is easy to put the relationship with your partner on the back burner. Romantic getaways and weekly dates are recommended, but for the majority of couples reasons such as financial and time constraints, as well as fatigue interfere and these dates just do not happen. The following are a few tips and tricks on frugal ways to stay connected to your partner on a daily basis.

Hi and Bye:

Make it a quick ritual to greet each other at the door when leaving and entering the home. It is a good place to easily touch base and create a smooth transition. It takes 30-60 seconds and sets the mood for the rest of the day/evening.

Make the Call:

Call or email at least once a day to check in and report how the day is going. Sharing the details of the daily schedule will help each partner feel connected with what the other one goes through during a day.

Coffee Date:

Wake up earlier one day a week and have a cup of coffee or tea together before the busy day begins. Being able to just sit and have coffee together without the phone ringing, kids jumping, or cats running around can do wonders toward feeling connected to each other.

Notes:

Leave quick notes for each other in places such as:

  • briefcases

  • taped to the steering wheel

  • computer monitor

  • pillows

Notes let the other person know that you are thinking of them during the day. Post-it notes or the back of old envelopes do fine for this task.

Physical Contact:

Physical contact with your partner is free! Hold hands during errands, collapse on the same couch at the end of the day and kiss whenever possible. Physical contact is also a great multi-tasker. It is possible to be on a business call while watching a child's sports game/concert and holding your partner s hand.

Frugal Fanatic Tip:

Try to give three compliments to each other during each day. Both partners will feel appreciated, noticed and connected.
