Giveaway & Review of Organically Raised- Conscious Cooking for Babies & Toddlers by Anni Daulter
Aug 13, 2010 Contests and Giveaways, Reviews
I was so pleased to have been contacted by Anni about doing a review of her new book Organically Raised – Conscious Cooking for Babies & Toddlers, that I went out and bought my own copy before she could even send me one. I have had the book for a few weeks now and am psyched to finally be able to post this review – and giveaway! I am going to grab the description of the book from the site because it really says it all:
“This book is meant to inspire you to get cooking for your little ones in a way that is simple, healthy, fresh and organic. The book offers information on how to set up a conscious kitchen space, mindful eating and meal preparation…”
This book is not only inspiring and peaceful (peaceful is really the only word that I can think of that is fitting here!), it is beautifully laid out and the photos are yummy! What I really enjoyed (besides everything else) was the little “Mama/Daddy Mantras” on each recipe page. This summer I found myself throwing meals together just to get them out of the way. With several camping trips under our belt, it’s been difficult to pack/unpack/laundry/clean before we’re moving on to the next camping trip or the next day camp. While our meals remained healthy, I liked picking up this book and being encouraged with positive thoughts. I was reminded that cooking for the family is a labor of love in and of itself with huge rewards that go beyond the actual meal itself; even if I wasn’t cooking any of the book’s recipes at the moment.
This book does a wonderful job of gently explaining why choosing fresh, organic and seasonal ingredients is a choice that has huge health benefits. Too many “organic” cookbooks, and other books on the subject, rely on thinly veiled scariness to try to convince and convert you but Anni’s book does not do this! Kudos to you Anni
I give the book 2 thumbs way up high for just this one factor.
The easy to follow recipes in the book range from basic to adventurous. It’s a wonderful bonus that most of them are simple to prepare; using most of the ingredients that you are likely to have on hand. Another bonus, many of the ingredients may be used in more than a few of the recipes. This helps busy parents save time while showing us healthy and creative ways to “mix it up”. One of the recipes, Veggie Burger Bites sounds so delish – it would make a great little meal for self-feeders and the whole family too. I love to create veggie burgers and often forget that these make a great food for fingers.

Congratulations to Laura N, comment #24.

And for all who were wondering exactly what the food is – it is a mix of 1/2 banana with 1/2 avocado. Many of you guessed it correctly and some of you came up with some yummy sounding guesses, like avocado-banana-pear. I hope you all will think about mixing this up for your little ones

Time for a little fun and a prize too! I was mixing this up to add to some yogurt for a snack the other day. It reminded me about how ridiculoulsy simple it is to make homemade baby food while making food for yourself and other members of your family too.
My boys came in and made some rather unpleasent faces and said “What the heck is THAT?!” I laughed and said it was a “magic mix” (no, I didn’t tell them that they used to eat this by the bowl full nor did I tell them I slip it into smoothies and other things, so shhh!!) I thought it might be fun to do a little contest here; haven’t done a contest in quite a long time.
What you need to do is leave a comment on what is in my “magic mix”. You can also comment on how you think it looks if the urge grabs ya! Don’t worry, no offense will be taken. Hints? Nope, no hints!
Comments will be open from 13 June 2010 through 15 June 2010 – midnight, EST.
Winner will be picked by random comment number via the Randomizer.org.
The Prize, a $25.00 gift certificate to the super-wonderous Earth Mama Angel Baby , sent via email (so don’t forget to leave your email).
