“Homemade” Baby Food to Go – The Traveling Trio
Feb 24, 2010 Eating Out, Friendly Baby Food Advice
Many parents feel that if they make homemade baby food, then they will be restricted to staying home because it would be difficult to travel with homemade food. It is a bit more convenient to take a long a jar or 2 of baby food but you really don’t have to! We become so accustomed to cooking, pureeing and storing that we often think only in terms of toting along containers of cubes. I find that many parents don’t even think of the easiest method of taking homemade baby food to go – the banana, the container and the fork. Think of it as the traveling trio!
If you are going on a day trip, or on a plane, the traveling trio is probably all that you will need for your little one. So grab your small food tote and toss in a banana, a fork and a container with a lid. When it comes time to feed baby, peel the banana, mash it in the container with a fork and VIOLA, fresh baby food to go! You could also take along an avocado, a baked sweet potato or even steamed carrot dices to mash up for baby’s meal.
** Taking fresh food through an airport security check point might be a bit difficult however most shops within the departures terminal will have bananas for sale.
Let us know how you have traveled with homemade baby food!

Etch-a-Sketch – Better than Crayons & a Coloring Book
Mar 2, 2008 Eating Out, Friendly Baby Food Advice
What does an Etch-a-Sketch have to do with homemade baby food? Nothing! This post has nothing to do with homemade baby food BUT, it does relate to eating, dining out in a restaurant to be exact.
If you have Toddlers or young kids, this is the ultimate in restaurant amusement! We found this out this weekend when we went to a new restaurant in town. Instead of crayons & coloring books, the restaurant had Etch-a-Sketches. While the food was horrid, the lack of crayons and coloring books was fantastic!
Our twin boys amused themselves the entire time we were at this restaurant. We even had to ask them to put the Etch-a-Sketch down and start eating! Bonus, we spent zero time fishing around for crayons that had rolled off the table or for coloring books that fell under the seat. There was no need to soothe one twin because his blue crayon broke and his brother’s blue crayon remained intact. If the food had been great, this would have been a wonderful meal for all of us!
My next shopping trip will include a set of Etch-a-Sketch toys! One set will be kept in the family car and the other in the camper. Now why on earth had we never thought of this before? This was a beloved childhood toy and we had completely forgotten about it! If you like to dine out with your small children, invest in an Etch-a-Sketch!
