“Homemade” Baby Food to Go – The Traveling Trio

Many parents feel that if they make homemade baby food, then they will be restricted to staying home because it would be difficult to travel with homemade food. It is a bit more convenient to take a long a jar or 2 of baby food but you really don’t have to! We become so accustomed to cooking, pureeing and storing that we often think only in terms of toting along containers of cubes. I find that many parents don’t even think of the easiest method of taking homemade baby food to go – the banana, the container and the fork. Think of it as the traveling trio!

If you are going on a day trip, or on a plane, the traveling trio is probably all that you will need for your little one. So grab your small food tote and toss in a banana, a fork and a container with a lid. When it comes time to feed baby, peel the banana, mash it in the container with a fork and VIOLA, fresh baby food to go! You could also take along an avocado, a baked sweet potato or even steamed carrot dices to mash up for baby’s meal.

** Taking fresh food through an airport security check point might be a bit difficult however most shops within the departures terminal will have bananas for sale.

Let us know how you have traveled with homemade baby food!

Here’s a great tip from great foodie mama Christina at http://www.takebackyourtable.com/ on the traveling trio –

Tip: peel a small hole in avocado and scoop out flesh. No mess!

    Fantastic isn’t it!

We travelled on V-day weekend and only brought along a mango for my son. (Plus utensils, of course.) We ate out, of course, and when we did, we ordered him a side of sliced avocado. We saved the mango for the meals when we didn’t eat out.

We traveled often when my son was eating baby food. It’s a lot easier than people think. We even went to Disney World and brought our own baby food.

Great idea ! I love it. We are going on our first trip, my son will be 14, almost 15 months when we do and I was trying to think of things I can pack for the plane and for the stay!

I made all my food for my youngest and we traveled (flew) twice and as long as they were in small containers they were ok to take on the plane. I kept the stuff frozen and put it in a lunch bag and lasted all day!

Great ideas all! A ripe pear is also very easy to mash/spoon feed on the fly. If your baby is past the puree stage, bring a potato masher along with you to a friend’s. http://www.healthyfoodzone.com

feeding a 7 month old while traveling in the summer Houston heat!!!! the plan is to invest in a cheap bottle warmer and premix each meal the day before leaving in glass clean and sterile baby food jars. not sure on the heat time….we only need 2 days worth of food. any ideas if we were working with frozen food cubes when traveling longer?
