Is your cheese grater under utilized? Grate some finger foods and put it to work!

Back from vacation and boy do I need a vacation now :)   What a time in the wild without modern technology for 5 days and then in the big city for 3 days.

The boys enjoyed the time in the wild the most and didn’t even miss their Animal Planet shows.  They watched bald eagles fetching breakfast each morning by skimmming fish from the ocean right at our cabin’s front steps!  I on the other hand was busy trying to cook meals with limited supplies and utensils.  I kept opening the cupboard and seeing  the cheese grater; this was the only “gourmet” gadget in our cabin.

The grater sat lonley and never used.  I thought this might make a great quick post - that poor cheese grater deserves some time in the spotlight!

So grab your cheese grater and make some quick and easy finger foods for your little one.  Here are a few ideas:

Fruits – peel a nicely ripened apple, peach or pear and then grate it using the small slots. This produces small and thin shavings that are easily gummed.  Mind the peach and pear mess however.

Veggies – use the fine slots to grate a peeled carrot, some tasty yellow or orange peppers, zucchini and even baked potato.  You will have itty bitty flakes of veggies that are also very “gum-able”.

Meats – grate soft cooked meats like chicken, beef, pork and fish (is fish a meat?).  Make a “meal” by adding grated fruits and veggies to the meats.

Of course, you can also use the cheese grater to grate cheeses for baby finger foods.

My babies loved these bits of grated foods and I hope yours will too!

**Always ensure that the foods you serve your little one are age appropriate and be sure to watch baby closely when offering finger foods!
