Freezing your baby food cubes in freezer bags? Yes, the bags are FREE of BPA

Hanna wrote us in a panic last night. She transfers her frozen food cubes to freezer bags and stores them in the freezer. She had just read a bit about homemade baby food and the article said that freezer bags were unsafe due to BPA – or something to that affect. Don’t worry Hanna, freezing in freezer bags is safe!

This statement that freezer bags have BPA is 100% absolutely and categorically false!

  • Freezer bags are NOT polycarbonate (remember, PC is hard!) nor are they made with any form of PC.
  • Freezer bags go into the freezer and are not heated – If they contained BPA , the BPA would not leach in the freezing temperatures of your freezer! BPA leaches most when heated at 140F degrees or higher!

To help you, we have copied the list of safe food wrap & food storage bags below. This list comes from the fabulous website The Green Guide.
