Kim Shares Her 9 Month Old Daughter's Favorite Mix:
Pumpkin (2 finger size pieces),
Tofu (1/4 cake),
Tomato (1/4),
a dash of garlic,
a dash of oregano
Steam everything together, and then mash the veggies with hand or fork. This makes one serving and is wholesome with proteins and vitamins, and is good when served with rice cereal
Mira Loves Parsnips
Taylor in GA writes about her 9 month old daughter's favorite mix:
1 bag of parsnips (about 4 in a bag)
2 Bosch pears
I peel and dice the parsnips and do the same with the pears. Don't forget to take the core out of the pears! Steam them together. When they are tender enough so that a fork goes through them easily, I know they are done. The only thing i have found is that letting the parsnips steam for 15 minutes or so before adding the pears helps keep the pears from totally disappearing into mush!
I have also added some yogurt and some ginger or cinnamon to this mix. Mira LOVES this.
Parsnips, Carrots, Apples & Squash - Oh My
Here's a yummy multi-combination recipe sent in by Sandy in Nevada, U.S.
"I had 2 parsnips, an apple, 3 carrots and 1 acorn squash kicking around the house before grocery store day. I thought it might be a yummy mix for my 9 month old. I gave this to Carlyle in a bowl and it was very pretty. He enjoyed digging around with his fingers and even tried to use his spoon! Here's how I did it -
Peel parsnips, apple (make sure you core it also!), carrots and squash
Cut all veggies into dices and steam together in a pot with water & a steamer basket. I have a large basket so this may not work well for those with only a small steamer basket insert.
Steam until fork tender then mash."
This sounds very yummy and would also puree nicely for those who are not on more textured and lumpy foods! Thanks Sandy!
Cheryl's Easy Peasy Cheesy Fish Sticks
2 Cod or Haddock fish fillets (thoroughly check for bones!!)
beat 1 egg in one dish
1 cup dry breadcrumbs with a
1/4 cup grated cheese (cheddar or parmesan) in another dish.
Preheat oven to 350 and lightly "grease" baking sheet with olive oil.
You need to cut the fish into little fingers - as big or as small as your baby or Toddler can eat!
Dip the fish fingers into the egg then roll in the breadcrumb mixture.
Place onto baking tray and bake for 15 minutes or until fish is golden and cooked through!
**Our Note: You may use 2 egg yolks instead of a whole egg or use 1 cup of milk to wet the fish before breading**

Kat's Easy Egg Substitute
Hi, I just wanted to pop in and say thank you for the wonderful site. I recently started making my own baby food and this site has been invaluable. I also have a quick tip for mothers who don't want to add egg to baked goods. I use one heaping tablespoon of soy flour and one tablespoon of water to substitute 1 egg in recipes. (This won't work if the egg is the only fat in the recipe.) I've been doing this since before my baby was born as a lower fat substistue. Of course this isn't an option for mommys of soy intolerant babies. Thank you so much for this fabulous site!
Tulika's Dal
With regards to your question about making the perfect Dal..I have a small steam cooker that I use to make dal for my daughter.
If you dont have a cooker, you can use a crock pot also (I have a small crock pot).
I flavour the dal with a small amount of tumeric and a tiny amout of salt. My daughter LOVES it.
I also add a small amount of rice to it also for added texture and flavour. before feeding it to her I make sure its mashed up nicely. cooking dal in a cooker/crockpot will melt the dal nicely so that there is no choking danger.
Cindi's Squashy Apple Coucous
My baby Jefferson (8 months old) loves Squashy Apple Cousous! Here's how I make it. This is an accidental discovery by the way!

Steam yellow squash and puree
Combine the couscous and pureed squash with some applesauce (natural only :-) and serve
Corinne's Creamy Banana "Pie"
Taking our "apple pie" recipe and adapting it to bananas, Corinne has come up with creamy banana pie for her 9 month old Dawson.
1 banana, mashed up
3 dollops of plain whole milk yogurt
crushed Oatie-O's
Add mashed banana to baby's bowl then add the yogurt. Sprinkle on the crushed Oatie O's. Dawson does not like this to be mixed. He prefers to taste each layer in every bite! What an adventurer!
Brenda and Heather's Poached Veggie Yolks
Brenda sent us this recipe while we were all away on vacation. Her 10 month old daughter Heather loves egg yolks and veggies so Brenda serves up some Veggie Yolks.
Take 3 or more egg yolks and scramble them - the amount of egg yolks depends on the number of egg cups that are in your egg poacher.
Prepare steamed Carrots and Broccoli - then mash the veggies
Mix the egg yolks and veggies and then add the mix to an egg poacher. Healther likes cheddar cheese sprinkled over these veggie yolks so you can sprinkle the cheese before you poach the egg yolks or when they are done.
Poach the eggs in gently boiling water until they are firm and there are no runny bits remaining. Serve warm with some whole grain toast! Heather goes wild whenever she sees me taking out the egg poacher insert now!
