10 ways to use pumpkin for your little pumpkin’s baby food

Pooh-Piglet-Pumpkin With Halloween approaching, and with all varieties of winter squash coming in for the Fall harvest, we thought we’d post about using pumpkin for baby food.  Please be sure not to use “Halloween” pumpkins for baby food; it’s not okay to make use of leftover pumpkin from Halloween.  Pumpkins tend to get moldy quickly but more importantly,  jack-o-lantern pumpkins are more stringy, fibrous and are not a good choice for food!

10 Ways to Use Pumpkin for Baby Food

1)  Add pumpkin puree to baby’s cereal
2)  Mix pumpkin and plain whole milk yogurt with a dash of nutmeg
3)  Make pumpkin bread, slice into sticks then bake again for teething sticks
4)  Pumpkin smoothies – pumpkin puree, yogurt, milk and banana in a blender
5)  Bake pumpkin, cube and toss with rice for “orange rice”
6)  Quick Pumpkin soup – pumpkin puree  & chicken broth with spices;  wizz, heat and serve
7)  Pumpkin “Butter” – pumpkin puree mixed with cream cheese or make the real thing!
8)  Make pumpkin rice pudding
9)  Pumpkin custard – like making pumpkin pie only using plain pumpkin puree and spices of your choice
10)  Pumpkin Pancakes – our favorite way to use pumpkin. (as found on our Fall Recipes for Baby Food page)
